14 Children and Pregnant Again!

So here I am... ready to start the long journey. It might take me months or years but I will rewatch all of the episodes in order.

To Start- I might have seen the original special, however I never taped that special. I wish I did since no one has the unedited version. I have the edited one. I own the DVDs and before that I taped every episodes (I know ahhhh). If ANYONE owns the unedited episode I would so buy it

This was actually my favorite special and episode. The Duggars were not as secretive. That is my own feeling, however I am sure I am wrong haha.

I hope the font is alright. If not I will try to adjust it.

Here I go...

The special starts with the announcer I actually like tell us that some families are small and some are big and some just keep growing and growing. Cue the Duggar family all in a row. They say their names and I feel it is awkward that they shake the camera man's hand. I also love how the "little guys" have really dirty shirts. Where were the buddies to get them clean shirts? Oh sorry that comes later...

The camera man does note that Michelle is with child with #15 (I guess that is why it is called 14 Children and Pregnant again! great idea for a title)

If you ever watch this episode again let it be known although they are not new the Duggars own over 7+ computers and were not doing school on the computer at that time. They also dress in prairie style which they now say they never did... um sure.

They all walk in a row some girls have a buddy. Joy-Anna is actually walking with Michelle and Jim Bob. This may come as a shock but Josh is pushing the stroller. I guess he was still able to be a buddy that that time. Jinger is 10 in here and she has a buddy. I also think Joy-Anna does and she was like 6. :(

I won't recap every word, but the announcer said that people always ask them questions like "are you a school group?" or "Are they all yours?" My favorite is "Are you just a daycare?" Yep a daycare for a 16 year old named Josh haha. Michelle says they ask about how much food they have to fix and laundry. She has a lot of makeup on and the big collar. I wonder if she secretly still has those dresses. The announcer said they will answer all the questions and more. However, they will answer it in a Duggar family way. I am sure they lied back then.

Let's continue this fun special :) On a side note Jinger does not lie she says they are ALWAYS lined up when they go out. I'm glad she is honest.

Josh is just a happy first child. Life was good I guess to Josh. "He said life was normal and he was used to it" of course Josh forgets- He grew up like that. Josh does say people think that they are "unusual" yep that's the word...

Oh here is the part that it gets to be super fun. The announcer talks about how awesome the Duggars are for raising 14 children. They are like the Walton's you know oh and life in the 21st century. Jim bob swings on the swing with his kids.

The announcer then says "although few of us may dream of actually  living this sort of life there is something to be learned from this now 'famous' family from Arkansas" They are on the bus. You know the bus before the other 2 buses? The short bus. They all fit although I worry about the car seats. I have to say Jana really was in an odd stage in this video. I think she is so pretty now. Time has done her good.

Okay now they talk about the lessons you can learn from the Duggars (I hope you are taking notes)
#1 Patience- practiced throughout the day especially when they all have to go to the bathroom since Jim Bob only has the kids living in a house made for a family of 5 or 6. My question is after I watch this. If they are saying "Hurry! Hurry! I have to go to the bathroom! is that practicing Patience? (Hey I am just saying)
Josiah said that everyone takes an hour shower (perhaps only Michelle and Jim Bob) There is only 2 bathrooms. I never can really understand how anyone gets a warm shower. I bet 3 people use it up really quick. I am sure someone gets a cold shower even if they don't admit it. Unless they take like a 3 minute shower. I mean I know they split them up half in the morning and half in the evening but still...

The announcer said that there are rules that must be followed. Michelle is delegating by pointing at her 100 post-it notes. I think that looks tacky now. I am glad I never did that.

Okay now they take about the Buddy system.. The announcer says that there is too much for 2 parents to accomplish. I never heard that before. Interesting how I missed that. Although Michelle is zipping up a coat- oh wait now she is point at telling the children what to do. This I never really saw. It is sad to think she is not parenting but just giving orders of what the 'buddy' should do.

According to Michelle "The Buddy System really means that Mom cannot be everywhere at all times so my older children help to take care of the younger children" Buddies help get their younger buddy get dressed, brush teeth, comb hair, get breakfast, do schoolwork, learn to play violin and piano and sew. If that wasn't enough they pick them up when they fall and keep track of them when they are out and about. Without the buddy system the house might seize to a halt. I'm so sure.. Everyone gets a buddy except Jim Bob because he is Michelle's Buddy (I never realized this but YUCK! That can be taken to a whole new level of gross if you think about them having sex- which I don't like to do). Michelle said she has the new baby as a buddy until it is weaned. Which is like 6 months. Then she is the Mommy only by name

Side note- they put names on the cups and I think those are the cups from Pizza Hut. I like Pizza Hut :) The kids sit around the table and have a few matching chairs and stools. I wonder who bought the huge flower arrangement for the table?

What?! I have only been watching this for 7 minutes? Wow I apologize this is gonna be long and have grammar errors- sorry in advance! I think once I get to the 30 minute shows this won't be a written book. haha

They are eating cold cut sandwiches for lunch. Let me look for some fruit- nope but I think they have some later. Now it is time to say if they want a boy or a girl
John David- hoping it is a boy
Jana- Hoping that it is a girl
Josiah- hoping for a boy thought it would be a girl (this is strange- how does he know it is a boy before the ultrasound... ummm okay- good editing there)
Jinger- I want a baby girl
Josh- I want a boy but I know the girls are wanting a girl so whatever
Michelle- I will be happy with whatever the Lord gives us
Jim Bob- We would be happy with a boy or a girl
and finally the best for last
Jill- I really want another girl but if it a boy comes then it would be good  then it would make 10 boys and 5 girls and then it will be half and half...(thinks about it) or half and... anyway

Ultrasound time- Oh wait no they have to rehash the same story of how they met. I am not really going to type about it. If you don't know the story I'm sorry but it involves church visitation, Jim Bob praying Michelle would be his, go to senior banquet together, Michelle's heart is knit to Jim Bob and Jim Bob asks her dad if he can marry Michelle and he says yes (this story stays pretty much the same throughout the specials and shows if I recall however now Jim Bob said that her dad was not really for it in the beginning but much have said yes anyway) They got engaged at Christmas. They show old pictures of them along with the picture of Michelle as a cheerleader.

Ahhh Peggy Bennett- I wonder where Jim Bob's 6th grade teacher is now? She said Jim Bob was not boisterous. He does look like a classic 70s kid though. She never dreamed they would have this many because most people have 1 or 2 kids.

On a side note I don' know what they are eating. I think different kinds of noodles.

It is pretty split in town- some people think they shouldn't have that many others are excited. They talk to the people in the town. The older folks seem to like that they have that many kids the twenty something boys question if they really can do it.

Finances- we heard it before they are debt free and it is all because Jim Bob was a guy would liked to buy cars-fix them up and then resell them, worked at a grocery store, Then they started the car lot. They sold cars on consignment and a towing business for public and police. Plus they had real estate license and then got insurance licenses. Then started a convenience store. They worked really hard to where they could relax.-Cue kids playing with toys. They bring up "buy used and save the difference" They don't buy anything unless they have the money.

They are now eating on paper plates some toast. I hope they ate more than toast in the morning.

Why do they have so many kids? Didn't start out that way- we have all heard this. They say though they had Josh and then wanted to have God allow us to have as many children as he wanted. No mention of the birth control in the first special it seems.

They are going to go shopping now. Even though it looks like they don't need to in the pantry. Ahhh I never saw that they have paper plated in the pantry! Josh shows us how they take seats out of the van. Michelle comes out and says they need to take out another seat. No offense but Michelle looks HUGE in those dresses when pregnant. She said they have to go on a huge shopping trip because they are low on groceries. It doesn't look like that though...

She is taking the 8 oldest. She just yells out "Its time to go- older ones. We're gonna go shopping" This part is sad Michelle says that Jason and James get to go down for nappy time and he cries out. Josh can't calm him down so Michelle whispers something to him (they call it words of encouragement)  They say every child in the house learns self control from the offset (blanket training?) James just goes with grandma to do puzzles.

Shopping at Aldi. The kids get all the stuff and Michelle just says what to get. Jim Bob gets cookies and then helps load some flats. John David does get a few oranges but most of it is processed stuff. Grand total: $828.32. They go home and Michelle explains that Jim Bob was a stocker/ checker in the grocery store for 5 years so that is why the pantry is organized. She mentions Tater Tot casserole. That reminds me I have to get the Tater Tot Casserole out of the oven... (haha kidding)

Now jurisdictions- the chores. a room or a few rooms are cleaned.
 Jill does the laundry.
Joseph does laundry, boys room and boys bathroom
Jana, Living room, girls room and Parents room (can't they do that THEMSELVES!)
Josiah- trash, boys room and boys bathroom
Jessa- " I think it is fun to help unless you have to clean around the toilet in the boys bathroom) Wait a minute why does she clean that bathroom? They have Josiah and Joseph leaning there.

On a side note again. The beds are all made in this special. With like actual sheets and blankets

Tour of the laundry room- Buckets. Michelle says 'underclothes' haha. Then they show the clothes closet because no one can be an individual. Girls wear white socks and boys wear black socks. Goal is to have people look at their countenances . Cue the girls in the dresses. Jessa is rocking a ribbon around her dress and Joy-Anna looks like she is going to a fancy tea party in 1878. Poor Jana and Jill- I won't even say a thing. Just loose the collars. Now did I just even look at their faces?!

Everyone has goals for the day on little pieces of paper. "Michelle says we may never accomplish everything in one day that is on our master schedule. It would be a miracle if everything went off perfectly but there's a  goal! At least there's a goal-  we know we are going somewhere"

The announcer says that strangely enough Jim Bob and Michelle spend more individual time with their kids than many parents because there is no television, Internet, and Walkmans. That leaves plenty of time for good old fashioned conversation. The kids are at home more than average kids because home is also school. Michelle talks about the law resource- bankruptcy law. She says "Joy, bankruptcy doesn't mean you go to the bank." Please tell me why a 6 year old need to know this? It is when people are having a hard financial time and can't pay their bills..

Now they play violins. It does seem fake. Oh well... they bow.

The Duggars feel the number one benefit of homeschooling is that they can go away from the dining room table. Michelle feels she is learning more than she ever did in school and is so much more fun. Also, if they don't understand something they all go search it out together.
Field trip to spray on installation. Jim Bob says homeschooling gives you the ability hands on how things work instead of just reading it out of a book. He needs to go back to school because my children do a lot of 'hands-on' activities in school.

Jim Cronkwright (the installation guy) says they are like ducks in a row- They bring a smile to peoples face and joy to peoples hearts. They are not selfish

Cue the new house - family project- with only occasional help. Josh had some doubts and wanted to hire that stage done.

Okay here is the Tater Tot Casserole recipe. They also have corn, oranges and water.

Now they go get the ultrasound together at Johnelle Hunt Woman's Center. Jim Bob says that is not when the they get the baby out. The baby comes out in another three months (good to know ;) ) They are going to see if it is a boy or girl and twins. They sing Amazing Grace. They pick out the name Johannah Faith for a girl and for a boy Judah Benjamin. Midwife Mari is performing the ultrasound.

They go to a aq Outback to eat. I never heard of that restaurant so I looked it up http://www.aqchickenhouse.net/ It is kids night and they always used to say that they drank water to save money but it looks like soda in the cups.

We see the Holts, They go ice skating and you can see a young Amy Duggar (at least it looks like her) The Holts share the Duggars religious convictions. Josh is seen talking to a Holt girl. They skate by each other but Jim Bob is behind him. Michelle brings up a bit about courtship but doesn't say courtship. Josh says he doesn't look at it as much as dating but looking for a lifelong partner. He thinks you can give your heart to so many, but if you are gonna give it away you should be give it to someone who is gonna love you and care about you and not someone who is just going to get carried away with their emotions.

Jim Bob says girl is for each child to find that special someone and God has created that person for them already. They show the 'home'church. It sometimes swells to 100 people in that home.

Name change- Jackson Levi is the new babies name. They left while the kids were asleep. Baby was transverse and they decided to go with a c-section when his little heart rate dropped. You can see Michelle's stomach in this special. He was born healthy. Everyone was excited.

Fast forward to Jackson he is now a toddler. They are still not living in the new house. They have to get out of the house because the church next door needs it. They are moving to a rental house because it is going to be torn down they don't mind they are living there. They move out of the old house by getting a bunch of friends to help.. This is when Josh has his head shaved. They movie in and got to the ATI conference. All dressed in red. After 10 miles the camper breaks down they fix it. They go to the ATI conference and then the announcer says Michelle is pregnant again. The ultrasound is done and Michelle is so not covering her stomach. Dr. Sarver says it looks like a girl. Happy day for everyone. Pop-up to Johannah Faith Duggar (baby 16!) was born on October 11, 2005

Well there you go. It makes me sad to think that Jackson and Johannah lived their whole life in the spotlight. The specials take a long time to go through and type about but I hope you enjoyed it. So much will change when the specials are over I feel. During this special I am sure Jim Bob wanted to get them to come over and continue the specials because I am sure they paid for the shopping trip and just for filming.

Hi My name is Rose.  My husband and I were ready to buy in to the who Gothard ATI stuff and really start being a fundie. I honestly believe I worshiped Jim Bob and Michelle since their first special. I wanted to be just like Michelle. I took notes highlighted in the books etc. (sick I know).

Well, long story short I had a friend tell me to look more closely at the Duggars and gave me this website and the television without pity. She also gave me a few websites about Bill Gothard. About 2 months ago we decided not to send in the application for our children to ATI.

I was talking like her- jeez I just wanted to be like her. They seemed perfect and polished. I lived blindly. Sadly many people do. I talked to many people who support the Duggars and now am starting to see how even they are being fooled. I actually believed they paid for Josie and are still debt free (I do not believe that anymore) and that the children were loving their life and really were thankful to be in the family.

I wanted to meet the family but decided not to go to a book signing. They are just too fake to me now

The blinders are coming off (Thank God)

So the reason for the blog is so that I can rewatch all the shows with the blinders off and recap them for you! I personally think it will be an eye opening experience since when I watched I LOVED the family.  I own the DVD's so the recap will be from them.

A few things before I start...

* I should start on Monday or Tuesday
*Please be aware I don't have good grammar. I have decided that although I went to school to be a teacher that they should go to a Catholic School.
* I will post when I can. I have 5 children Michael Jr. 9, Felicity 7, Emma 4, Emily 2 and Hannah 4 months. They keep me busy.
*Some parts of my life I like to keep private, however sometimes I will add some things.

The first special 14 kids and pregnant again!... coming soon!
